One fine day, Sir Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree and was struck in the head by a falling apple. When he came to he established principles (which had already existed in nature) that define the modern laws of motion. You may have heard “an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an external force.” So, too, is the converse true where if you sit in your office chair and do nothing, nothing actually happens. I realize we have simplified a very complex process for the sake of time and space, but you get the idea.
In some of the material I am reading and working on this week, it is suggested that the easiest way to reduce reluctance and resistance is to put yourself in motion. Some people are meticulous planners and will spend an inordinate amount of trying to come up with the perfect plan. And then do absolutely nothing with the plan. The perfect plan is meaningless without the execution, or motion, to make it work. Others are no planners at all and fly by the seat of their pants. Action without direction is chaos.
Despite what you see, hear and read in the national news, the world is not crumbling down around us. Sun still comes up each day, people are still spending their money on goods and services. You need a plan to attract them to your business. Perhaps the reason for our own inaction is we forgot Newton’s laws of motion. Perhaps we dread the idea of the hard work it will take to put the plan in motion. Perhaps we are confused about where to start and the number of choices that exist. We would rather just do nothing, so no action is taken.
The world may move at a faster pace than Sir Isaac Newton’s apple, but the laws, established by Newton, are no less true today than when discovered. An object in motion stays in motion. Make a plan. Take a Step. Put yourself in motion. You will find it gets easier and easier over time to stay in motion, even as a business. Not sure what to do? Call us, we can help.
