For those of you who have read our monthly e-mail, you know there are several themes we explore in this space. The first is the power of consistency in advertising, the second has to do with what you should invest in your marketing messages and the third is what your marketing messages should sound like.
We spend a lot of time on these issues and we do that because we believe those are the keys to success with any advertising, regardless of where you place your messages. We believe in it also. We do it when we advertise our own product: We make sure we have a great message, it has enough frequency and we deliver it with consistency.
As I enter my 25th year of helping businesses succeed, I still wonder why this rule is not followed more closely. It is such a basic fundamental principle of successful advertising, I wonder out loud and often, why so many people forget that this is what will make you successful. Maybe it was such a good idea and it worked so well that we just quit doing it?
Get back to the basics of your business. What it is that sets you apart in our marketplace? Figure out what that point of differentiation really is? How will you communicate this point and what do you want to the customer to do immediately or within a few hours of consuming your messages? Decide how you want to tell people who you are, where you are located and how to do business with you. Ask your media partner what it takes to be a success? Ask an expert.
